The Flight Nobody Wanted
Airports are strange places.
Thousands of people pass each other every day.
Everyone is going somewhere.
Everyone is leaving something behind.
Everyone is carrying a story nobody else knows.
It was nearly midnight when the announcement arrived.
"Flight 782 has been delayed by four hours."
The entire waiting area groaned in frustration.
People complained.
Children cried.
Business travelers argued with airline staff.
Meanwhile I sat near Gate 12 staring through the giant glass windows at the rain pouring across the runway.
I had already experienced the worst week of my year.
The delayed flight felt like one more thing going wrong.
At least that was what I thought.
I had no idea the delay was about to become the best thing that ever happened to me.
